This month we are looking at John Wesley's Three Simple Rules. John Wesley who was the founder of Methodism summarized Jesus' teachings into three rules that are simple to remember though hard to implement: do no harm, do good and stay in love with God. This week we are focusing on do good.
So why do we do good? As Christians we know that it is not our good works that earn us salvation. It is God who offers us salvation. But when we begin to understand God's wonderful grace we desire to do good. We want to express our gratitude to God. God has been asking God's people to be good for a long time. In Micah 6:8 we find "He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"
Jesus' entire ministry was about doing good. There are several key parts of Jesus' ministry: he healed, he fed, he taught and he shared the good news about the kingdom of God. Jesus gave his disciples the ability to do all that he did, they were given the ability to heal in Jesus' name, we can feed people, the disciples were to teach and witnesses to all that Jesus did on earth and we have been sent to tell others the good news of God's kingdom. Join us as we dive into how Jesus lived into this rule to do good and how we can do the same!
