Robin and I are huge fans of the HGTV network. When we are not watching a ballgame or some sports program our TV is always tuned to HGTV.

One of our favorite shows on HGTV is called ‘Fixer Upper’. The show features a wonderful couple named Chip and Joanna Gaines from Waco, TX. Chip and Joanna convince their clients to buy the sketchiest, ugliest house around and allow them to completely redo the house and transform it into the home of their dreams. The transformation each week is not only amazing, but the two goofy lovebirds are what really sells the show.

As I thought about this I thought this was a wonderful analogy of what God does in our lives. Life can be difficult. Sometimes it can leave us feeling run down, weathered, broken, and worn out. Like an old house that has weathered years of with a leaky roof, scarred floors, yellowing paint, and crumbling foundation we often find ourselves in need of some spiritual renovation. We need someone to see our potential and give us a second chance. The good news is that God is in the remodeling and restoring business. He specializes in remodeling and upgrading areas of our lives so that we can experience a beautiful and spacious existence.

As we begin the series this week we start with the Master Plan. If you have ever seen the television show, you know that in order to rebuild or remake a house, the first thing you need is a good set of plans. The same thing is true for your life. The good news is that God has a blueprint for every life. The blue prints for our lives can’t from Hollywood or from our culture. We find it in God’s Word.

I hope you will invite a friend and join us this week as we look at God’s Master Plan and begin to take on our fixer upper.
