What is Youth Week?

Youth Week is no ordinary "camp"; this is a week-long experience for all students from entering middle school to graduating from high school. Youth Week is an amazing opportunity for our youth to grow in discipleship of our Lord and Savior and to grow with their friends and make new friends through fun and exciting fellowship opportunities throughout the week. Our Youth also participate in mission projects that make an impact on the lives of people within our own community and nation and around the world.

Speaker: Juliet Leach

Our speaker for this year's Youth Week is Juliet Leach! Julie serves as the Youth Ministry Director at Courthouse Community UMC in Virginia Beach, Va.

Worship Band: Brightwork

Returning this year to Youth Week is the amazing worship band, Brightwork! Hailing from Roanoke, Va., Brightwork is a collection of college friends who booked a show in May 2009 before practicing together. By the end of that summer after writing and recording together, the group found that their direction evolved from a project to a calling. Since then, Brightwork has shared the stage with national touring acts including Jeremy Camp, Sanctus Real and many others. Brightwork’s mission is to integrate their desires of writing and performing with a the higher desire to serve Jesus and make him known to everyone. We are blessed to have Brightwork lead our youth in worship again this summer!

On Thursday, August 2, Brightwork will headline an open-to-the-public concert to benefit the New Creation Youth Ministry's mission projects during Youth Week. All are invited to attend.

Missions

We believe that youth have the ability to change the world and to shine the light of God's love on everyone. Youth Week gives our youth an opportunity to be heroes and to make an impact on their local and global communities. This summer, our goal is to complete over $10,000 in missions work over three days. Youth are invited to kick-off Youth Week on Sunday morning this year with Youth Skip Sunday, our quarterly mission project when the youth skip church so that they can be the church in the Western Branch, Churchland and North Suffolk communities. On Wednesday, our youth will pack 20,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger (an organization formerly known as Stop Hunger Now). On Thursday, our youth will purchase and pack at least 500 relief kits for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

Youth Ministry Internship for Young Adults

Each summer, the Youth Ministry offers a paid summer internship for young adults currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program to help with preparing for Youth Week. This internship will help develop valuable professional skills while helping our youth build their relationship with Christ. We are looking for TWO wonderful interns to join our team this year. Check out the job description and application below to apply. Applications are due to the church office by Friday, March 30, 2018!
